P2P Process Design: Process Choices & How Do I Set Up a Channel Strategy?

Your organization's process design is a critical phase in the P2P process. Filling this out beforehand seems like a difficult task, but if you have made the right preparations, you will get through this relatively easily. In this blog, we're going to help you with this, by showing how to make the right choices in the process and setting up a channel strategy. In doing so, we hope that your organization can also benefit from a successful P2P process. We cover the following topics:

The wider scope of P2P This blog is about setting up P2P processes. Before we start, let's zoom out. Processes are important, but not the only topic. To identify all factors that influence P2P, Boston Consulting Group has developed the following model:

BCG'S Digital Procurement House

This model shows how a digital purchasing policy is built within the organization. The Foundation consists of software selection and data analyses. The Enablers ensure that the system is running. The Values are the values that the system brings to the organization. In the case of process design, the process is only one of the Enablers. So when setting up your process, also take into account the organization, people, performance management and cooperation.
Expectations Prior to implementing the system, you often see that those involved have high expectations, which plummet after the Go-Live phase. Real satisfaction is declining because these high expectations cannot be met in practice. Then, of course, the question is: how do you proceed? By means of a conscious process design, you can find opportunities to recover that satisfaction. When you start with process design and channel strategy, you first look at the formulated objectives, vision and policy. Going back to this basis gives you the guidance and direction you need to make conscious choices during process design to arrive at the optimal P2P process design. So ask yourself the following questions before setting up the P2P process:

  • What are the organizational goals?
  • How do support departments such as Finance and Procurement contribute to this?
  • What is the policy? (Procurement, AO/IC)
  • What role does P2P play in this?

In the rest of this blog, we will further discuss P2P process choices, the channel strategy and also mention various pitfalls of this strategy. Want to continue reading? Then click
